This beautiful brass porthole is has been salvaged from the Regal Empress formerly SS Olympia, Flagship of Greek Lines. These windows are what we call 'inside-key' windows where the fastening keys are one the inside and in this case a nice cast brass catch to lock the window just ajar.
Stripped of all it's numerous layers of marine paint and then cleaned and professionally polished. The S/S Olympia, the first and last newbuild ocean liner built for Greek Line. She was also the largest ocean liner built for Greek interests at the time. She was built in 1953 by Alexander Stephen & Sons, Glasgow, Scotland, UK. She was designed to operate regular transatlantic voyages from Piraeus to New York.
